More moose than people!

…or at least that is what it feels like here in Cape Breton Highlands National Park during the wintertime.

Moose in Cape Breton Highlands National Park

When I accepted a one year assignment at Cape Breton Highlands National Park, I didn’t have any idea what a winter in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia would be like. Coming from Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on Vancouver Island, British Columbia I was not used to a real Canadian winter! I can honestly say that after four months of shoveling snow, snowshoeing, and learning to skate I am starting to get the picture.

This national park is very underused in the winter time. That is good for the ecological integrity of the place, but people are missing out on some good adventures. Groomed trails, a couple winter shelters for use, snowshoe trails galore, and of course lots of moose. Okay, enough blogging I am going to hit the trails…
